Beef and Broccoli

Beef and Broccoli is my go-to when I want something that feels like takeout, but I don’t want the takeout bill (or the wait). My friend Dana shared her version of this with me, and it immediately earned a spot in our simple supper rotation. It’s quick, simple, uses basic ingredients, and comes together fast in one pan.

Tender beef, crisp broccoli, and a savory sauce that makes everyone happy, this one is one of those weeknight saves you’ll come back to again and again. Bonus: it makes great leftovers, too!

Ingredients

Instructions

  1. PREPARE the broccoli and onion. Rinse, chop, slice.
  2. START rice on the stove, so it can cook while you make the rest of the recipe.
  3. BROWN beef on skillet over medium-high heat with 2 tablespoons of Bachan's sauce. Cook until fully browned and no longer pink.
  4. ADD broccoli and sliced onion to the skillet. Cover and let vegetables steam for about 4 minutes.
  5. WHISK together remaining Bachan's sauce, cornstarch, and water in a small bowl until smooth.
  6. POUR sauce mixture in the skillet. REDUCE to low heat. STIR and let SIMMER a few minutes until sauce thickens.
  7. REMOVE from heat. FLUFF rice and SERVE beef and broccoli over the top.
  8. GARNISH with sliced green onions and sesame seeds, if desired.

Notes

Be careful not to overcook the broccoli. You want it tender-crisp, not mush.

Protein swap: You can use thin-sliced steak or even chicken instead of ground beef.
